ISN'T SHE LOVELY..... ^J^.......the caption on the side of this beaut..."SPONSERS OF THE EMPLOYEE- ? ....OF TWA???? ...WHAT IS THE WORD AFTER THE -(DASH)..???
Yeah, it's getting late here. I'm watching the movie "Catch me if you can" which has a couple of Pan Am and TWA shots in it :).
The engine says "Wings Of Pride" which was the name of the aircraft.
I found some info on it as well.
"Wings of Pride was leased from an Irish firm. From what I've learned it was a cost factor. Wings of Pride was paid for directly by the employees of TWA. Every pay period employees who wanted to contribute had money deducted from their paychecks to lease the aircraft. Certainly a true symbol of pride and employee ownership in a company."
That explains the Irish reg. The aircraft is now flown by American Airlines.
Edwin....before I forget....go to my post on this blog on July 23, 2011....there is the story on the UFO jet....we are trying to figure out the airline......
and Thanks so much for telling the rest of the tale of this beaut of TWA jet...so proudly sponsored!!!! What a waste of an awesome paint job....for A. A. to paint over....
The first image is not the same aircraft displayed on the second image.
The first one is a T-tail aircraft and looks like a C-141 starlifter but they were all retired in 2006 as far as I know. That leaves the C-5 but the aircraft looks to be too thin to be a C-5. It could be a Ilyushin Il-76. I definitely don't think it's a C-17.
And for the 747 with the blue stripe could it be an El Al 747?. It's a 747-400 because it has winglets and the shape of the wings and belly are different from the A340. Although it looks to be 3 different aircraft on 3 the 3 pictures, with the last two being 747s. At least that's what I think.
It' blue swirl paint job around the front wings...... the other 2 jumbo jets are simply for comparison...to the UFO one....I even called Boeing....it's got to be a747....got no response..from Boeing...
did you read the story on my July 23 post...it pretty much tells what we do know....I want to find that jet...find that Airline....
Ok, let me just make sure we are on the same page here? :P The jet we are looking for, is this one?
If that's the case, we can eliminate it being a 747 or A340, because it has a T-tail. If it has a special paint job (blue swirl) we can eliminate most military jets (C-5, C-17). Now I'm starting to lean towards an Il-76, but that has a more swept wing than this one. And the Il-76 is less common in European skies.
the UFO jet we are looking for is in the image with 2 jets...the one on the left has a water mark or somehting over the jet... the big pic on the right of that one....I took that pic off my computer, has the blue swirl paint jog, and its the one we are looking for....the biggest of the 3 pics....the other 2, kinda just comparison...starting off.....
Edwin, the EL Al 747 surely could be a runner up.....the blue swirl, though not as wide...and a littel darker...but same paint sceme.....good one!!! if we could look at the fleet...maybe EL AL...has different shades of the blue swirl....that could be interesting ....are any EL AL 747's flying over the netherlands....????? To be contiued................:))
Edwin, thats exactly what I've done.....bought the subscription, so you can watch "LIVE", commbined with LIVE ATC.....For Aviation GEEKs....HEAVEN:))))))
I will check on Bas....for update...on our mystery jet....this is so fun...and it's so cool, that you are interested as well!!!!!!!!!!....
OH, one more thing.....Edwin, would you tell me how to put a "LIVE" link..or a "Website Link"..., (so someone can just click on it...and go straight to webpage?????) in someone's comment box, like you did here a few comments ago....with the jet pics?????
step by step....remember I'm old.....so you may have to explain sloooowly....LOL
The way you include that links that way is by using a HTML tag, the "a" tag. I can't display it here because then it will only show an empty link but you can read about it here!!
Hey! Nice aircraft, also with a history behind it! I see you've learned something new again Julie, links! :) Now it can never go wrong anymore... (I hope so lol)
Progress on the UFO Jet I see. I've also thought of the IL-96 Edwin, but none of the liveries I have found suit this one... Boeing 747 it is, let's keep that :P
