Let me start over............Good God.......Jules........put the wine glass down........and grab your ass with both hands....
our AAS(Worldwide)..AVIATION APPRECIATION SOCIETY(WORLDWIDE BRANCH)........has grown by leaps and bounds in the last several years.....with.....me flying to Ottawa..in February ..2012..to meet GG.....then her flight here ......that June......followed by Bonnie coming to visit..me..here...in November of the same year......I met her through Cappy's blog.....after......Dave and Lucy...come here last November........what a motherlode....and GG flies in the second week Dave and Lucy are here.....its been so Amazing......these wonderful connections(yes pun)....an Aviation family.............that continues to grow....!!!
June 18, Dave........met with with Alan Cockrell.....of http://alancockrell.blogspot.co.uk/ fame..
Dave has been a faithful follower of Alan's blog...for several years.........."Decision Height".....so in mostly his words....he talks of his evening......Captain Cockrell and his First Officer had invited Dave to dinner.......but Dave had a 2 hr drive home......so declined.....the whole flight crew were there.......but they gave Captain Allan and Dave.........their own time...and space.
Dave said that Captain Cockrell...(Allan)..was lovely and they chatted for 2 solid hours.....and talked about Aviation but also about their lives........as well......like old friends..He sounds like a lovely man.....indeed...Dave....
and about being nervous.....I can relate to that....when Dave and LuLu flew here last November....I was a ball of nerves........and I proved it by losing the 'parking ticket' only to find it and then Dave lost it......LOL>.......Captain Cockrell is retiring soon.........and he lives in Alabama.........Mmmm.....sounds like the makings of another AAS.......Convention...Seems the good Captain has a small plane......we can all meet up again here in New Orleans........God help us.........ha ha.....Bigger and more messier than the last.............Dave we are so proud of you.....Your the best Aviation Ambassador ever...!!!
Thank you Dave......for sharing.........this Awesome story.......!!!!
A Big ole "Birthday Wish", to Paul{Daniel} Asuncion Today(6/22/12).......... from the MissTWA blog...., and especially from "MissTWA" herself...and Giulia.... |

Incredible! Dave, you met with Alan of the blog, Decision Height!
I love reading his blog, especially his stories.
Yes, yes, please give us details of the meeting. I can just imagine the stuff you blabbed to him.
Poor Alan. He looks a little worn out. Did you talk his ears off? ((HUGS)) to you, Dave.
Well done! You make the geeks proud! xo
GG
Alan was a lovely man and very interesting , we talked about life, the universe and everything. I thought later it must be strange to meet up with a stranger who knows so much about part of his life, spooky!
What made it a fun evening is that Alan was as interested in my life as I was in his, a real privilege and well worth the price of a beer. Every thing else is classified...
Dave W :)
Small confession, I took his book - Tail Of The Storm along with me as I was going to ask him to autograph it, but I didn't get it out for fear of embarrassing him while with his crew or me coming over like a stalker!!
C'mon...you? A stalker? Ha ha ha....
Hey GG.....looks like we have another AAS meeting to plan......What an Excellent.....time we're having......LOL>....the poor Captain........looking a little worn for wear..
..He lives close...he can fly his small plane here to New Orleans....for our next go around......!!!
LOLOL...Dave about his book....well you got better by having such a nice chat.....and the feeling of ease while talking....!!! was like when you and LuLu Bell flew here.....it was ease right from the start...course it went down hill from there......kidding.......then the icing on that cake was GG.....flying in......as well....The Good Captain was a good listener..he sounds awesome......and hey...when we meet up again......he can hop on his 'puddle jumper' over here to New Orleans......then he belongs to us.....ha ha....AWESOME Job....Dave........and Thank You Captain Allan...for being such a stand up guy.....and a Fabulous role model.....!!!
YOU REMEMBERED!!!!! :)))) Thank you, Julie &
Giulia!!

A birthday makes you think of your childhood,
sometimes. Here's an aviation anecdote:
Captain Doug was not the only, or the first
neighbourhood kid to have pilot aspirations.
Harry Munro was 7 years older than Doug, and
a bit of a hero to the future AIR CANADA
man. Harry was the older brother of my friend,
Chris. I remember street hockey games in
front of the Munro House, using Harry's
sticks, which were always a foot & a half
taller than us!
This summer will be the 20 year anniversary
of Harry's death due to an accident involving
his T-33, military plane. Harry did manage to
bail out, over a forested area, but - it was not
to be. The search party [including is brother]
found him days later.
Yes, belated Happy Birthday Daniel - I never remember anyone's (and try to forget my own!)

Dave W: Thank you, young man!
One more childhood anecdote...
I was standing out on our quiet street, when
one friend of mine, a bit younger than me,
came out of his house, sobbing. He had
just been talking to his mother, and just
found out devastating news:
That when he became my age, he would
not automatically turn brown like me!
He was white, and he always would be.
His mom came out of the house, and tried
to pull him away. She kept saying,
"I'm sorry, Dan. Sorry."
I didn't know what to say. I should've said
something; my friend was so upset. But, I
was just a kid, too.
A great memory from days that will
never come again... :)
