BECAUSE I REALLY MISS TWA AIRLINES!!!

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Last day of Jet Spotting,at St. Louis Lambert Int'l Airport..... A special place to watch the Jets take off and Land. for Decades....

http://youtu.be/QQypnBjPZFw

This simple concrete lot was a very Special Place.....back in the 60's and early 70's....I watch Planes take off and land.....for hours upon hours.....

Closed 2002, for construction of a 10,000 foot runway.....known as the "White Elephant" runway.....whole neighborhoods were wiped off the face of the earth....bought out, forced to relocate for this runway...This is a story unto itself...I will tell in a future post.

Most airline's refuse to use it today,...because it's just too far from the terminal....(fuel cost...and such)
Southwest Airline's flat out refuses to ever use it....over 3 miles to their terminal all the way on the other end of Lambert Field....
This once thriving Airport....is now only a "Shell" of it's former self ... when TWA Airlines was bought out, stolen or what ever terms you may want to use....American moved many of the flights away.

The runway expansion was planned over a ten year time frame...with the hope of Lambert Field becoming one of the midwest's top airport's, and especially for international destinations.....Now, mostly 737's and the regionals are coming and going.

The lovely picture is compliments of a dear friend....and I Thank You again!!!

That sounds so awesome Julie, sitting at the airport for hours. Wish I could do that... :P It's a shame places like those need to go, airports should connect with what's around them or invest some money in an even better place...

Wish I could travel back in time for one day, and have a look there to see what was flying back in those days!

Well...I guess we're pretty lucky at the YOW airport. We have a pretty sweet spot that is really really close to Runway 25.

Some nice summer evenings, there is quite the crowd of people, sitting on their lawnchairs, or on their parked cars...some people taking pictures of planes taking off and landing. There are a lot of families there waving back at the pilots before they take off.

You know, come to think of it, I haven't been there in a while. I should take the kids this evening. ;)

and wave our BARBIE waves till the cows come home.....LOL....wouldn't that be fun...
1 bottle...thats all...just enough to try and hitch hike a ride from one of the pilots...hey it don't hurt to ask......
GIVE ME A 'THUMBS UP'...LOL

Great video - thanks for sharing it!

When I was a little nipper my Dad used to take me to Toronto airport to do the same thing - watch the planes take off and land. We would bring a lunch and make a day of it.

Good times!
