 An Austrian daredevil leapt into the stratosphere from a balloon hovering near the edge of space 24 miles (38 km) above Earth on Sunday(10/14/12),...
breaking as many as three world records including the highest skydive ever, project sponsors said.
Cheers broke out as Felix Baumgartner, 43, jumped from a skateboard sized shelf outside the 11-by-8-foot (3.3-by-2.4 metre) fiberglass and acrylic capsule that was carried as high as 128,000 feet by an enormous balloon.
"We love you Felix!" screamed the crowd as he plunged through the stratosphere!!!!!!!!!

Felix Baumgartner celebrates, with Art Thompson, technical project director, after successfully jumping from a capsule 24 miles above Earth and landing safely in Roswell, N.M.
 The jump was sponsored by energy drink maker Red Bull.....

A Friend of Dave W's, from the UK............(Charlotte).....
sent Dave these few Very,"Cool" ass pictures......!!
I don't need or want, to have perfect pictures......of Jets.......
   these 'Homemade' ......one's are the Best...........♥

OK,

Charlotte flew on a BA A320 from London Heathrow to Barcelona El Prat (am I the only one that finds this airport's name funny??)

Pic of BA 747 taken at Heathrow when leaving, pic of AC 767 taken on arrival at Barcelona. The pics of the cockpit are on arrival back at Heathrow in the evening - it took her all day to work up the courage and she was very nervous to ask but she tells me the First Officer was quite cute!

Also, this was a day trip given as a prezzie by a supplier and she flew club class which made her very happy - free champagne and she has saved me a bag of club class nuts - personally, I wished she had saved me the Champers!!

Um...dat 1st cockpit pic be of an Airbus...just sayin'!

LOL, the briefing card reminds me of an awesome-hysterical set of mock cards I had years ago. If I can dig 'em up I'll send 'em to ya--perfect for a Miss T post! Or...I'll use 'em myself, lol!

Hey Jules, nice post!

I cajoled Charlotte into taking pics - see, I try and spread the word amongst the uninitiated! (I think she quite enjoyed the challenge really)

And yes Cappy, you have to allow Jules a little poetic licence - the AC bird is a 767, the BA bird is obviously a 747 and yes, both cockpit pics are of the 320 she rode on - and by the looks of the cockpit they could have done with your brush!!

All the best

D from the UK :)

LOVE THE PICS, DAVE!! Say thank you to Charlotte.

Jules, look at the seats in the flight deck...LOL...where are those icky seat covers?! Go figure! *snickers*

My brother just came home today from a week in Amsterdam...He flew on an AC birdie like the one in your pics. (He didn't get me any photos...ugh! He just calls me avi-nerd.)

Cappy, can't wait to see those cards. It doesn't matter who posts them, I get to laugh anyway!

Happy weekend, everyone. :)

Hi from YVR,

Here for the weekend, staying at my favourite airport hotel, with my fav. room overlooking the terminal and north-side runways. There's even a nice Nikon spotting scope on a tripod for me to use :-)

Of course it's pouring rain and I can't see anything 10 feet from the window, but you know, it's the thought that counts.

Before it started raining, I was using that spotting scope to stare directly into an Air Canada A320 cockpit. Put it this way ... I could zoom in to the point of being able to tell what kind of sunglasses the Captain and FO were both wearing. Jules, you would never leave this place.

My cockpit view looked a little different. These two guys were in my way.

By the way Captain Eric .... what's the deal with pilots and short-sleeved shirts? Why don't pilots ever wear long-sleeved shirts? Ever?

Enough ranting .... back to spotting. Some lights coming this way ... looks like a US Airways 319 coming to the terminal :-)

Craig R said...

Giulia - AC doesn't (sadly) go direct to AMS so where did your brother fly into and out of?

MUC = 767-300
FRA = either 767-300 or 777-300
CDG = 777-300
CPH = 767-300

As much as I prefer riding on the bigger birdies, MUC has the best connections. That's where I'll go through when I visit AMS next month. FAR less hassle than going through FRA or CDG.

Craig! Oooooh, lucky you! Yes, I believe Julie would never leave the hotel room (and I'm embarrassed to say the same for me)...

Re: the short sleeve shirts...I laughed at that comment. I remember vaguely someone telling me that pilots who wore long sleeves tended to be "left of centre"! (Laughing again)

Gosh, Ritchie...for all your travelling, you shoulda read an answer to that in enRoute or the GoFar answers...I'm pretty sure that question is there.

I personally think it's so they have less "shirt" to get dirty...spills and stains. :)

Oh, and Ritchie...my brother flew into Frankfurt. We don't have lots of choices here in Ottawa.

Are you going to meet up with Bas when you are in Amsterdam? You had better!

Take pics!

Hello to everyone...(and sorry for the long comment)...

Nice bag Julie!
But why is that an Aeroflot bag?,instead of TWA ?:)

A quick hello from tower,
Metin

capnaux said...

Wow, didn't know I'd get my head bitten off for politely correcting the facts for airline enthusiasts, LOL!!!

LOVE the Aeroflot bag, how cool! Who cares if it's a Gucci bag or faux, lol?!?!

Haha I've tried long sleeves and just NEVER wear them...then again, I'm based in PHX!!!! And if you do spot a pilot with LONG sleeves...it's bc he has TATOOS all over his arms, LMAO!!!! (True true!!)

Hi Julie et al!

Been a while here! Love flight deck pictures haha, no matter what. They bring something magic, especially during the night.

Nice bag you got there, is it glow-in-the-dark? ;)

What's everybody doing in Amsterdam here!? My city!!! But really Craig, are you coming to Amsterdam again? When is 'next month'? That actually sounds like a really cool hotel room haha. Good to see you around here by the way :)

And Hello to Metin! I signed up for a peak in the Schiphol ATC tower but sadly enough didn't win this year (again...). 25 word motivation on which I did my best (25 words is nothing...) and kept to the rules and now they're announcing the winners on facebook saying they saw the best series of pictures coming by in the e-mails.... yeah well dang... I didn't know it was allowed to send pictures...

Good to be around here again :) And those sleeves... good question haha.

Have a great week everybody!

Bas

Hi Bas!

Next year will be the year you get to visit the tower! I feel it in these ol' bones. Don't give up!

Yes, everyone seems to be in your part of town. My brother loved it there and had so many stories to tell. He was telling me about the bikes too. (Ritchie...I remember you almost got wacked by one or two--so did he! LOL!)

Anyway, glad to hear from you, Bas. How's the blog repair coming along. Missed hearing from you.

Take care,
Giulia

Thanks for posting my pic...u gonna post any "excerpts" from any AWESOME NOVELS your'e reading any time soon............???????!!!!!

Nice to check in, Bas! Keep on entering, you gotta win that thing--next year, I bet!!! (I'd write about your INT'L BLOG and how so many ppl around the WORLD tune into it...they'd salivate to have you win it!!!)

Let you in on a secret: when I was a brand spankin' AWA new hire (circa '90), I mistook a 737-300 sim cockpit (it's glass) for an Airbus!! So...it can happen to the "best" of us, LOL!!
