BECAUSE I REALLY MISS TWA AIRLINES!!!

Monday, January 30, 2012

LHBP(Approach)......(Budapest, Ferihegy Int'l airport)....has 1366 people listening to Live ATC......That has got to be a New World Record........!!!......Istanbul.........always #1 with the listener's......and that usually around 120 or so 'Aviation Geeks' listening ......course my FAV.........Is JFK............I'm spoilt to them!!!! ;)))

LOOK WHAT I JUST FOUND.......
"WHILE NOT WORKING"...;O.....(oopsie)

NO, IT'S NOT AN AIRLINE AD.........
BUT THIS IS WHERE I WAS BORN............
WHAT A LUCKY FIND....FOR ME!!...
JUST WANTED TO SHARE......HEY THANKS FOR THE VISIT!!!

When the ATC asks a pilot to
"SQUARE THE BASE"..........
is Controller asking the pilot to "Line Up" his plane(thus square off)...
  to his(pilot's) approach runway??????????????????

A lot of those requests today at the "JFK"...

While setting up for a job on a vertical milling machine.................I was tightening down a tool holder.........with a big Ass "chetah pipe".....
(and I Always said to myself....when using it............"It gonna slip one day and I am going to bust my Ass Good).........!!!

I heard the  pop of the chetah pipe slip.........and I was on the floor...and broke my fall...with my right arm....
.
jumped up.........no problem.........
trying to shake off the embarassment of the fall........
I then felt a warm rush down my arm..............picked it up(my arm)
.....and as you can see, the first picture.............the Lovely "S"........shape of my very 'broken' wrist
............That Baby was snapped!!!!!!..
So had surgery..........second/third pic..........a 'Titanium' plate and screws... that was inserted.........

Well no more "Machining".........for me.............after 26 years.....working in the Machine Shop.............12 hours a day....busting Ass......!!!!!
I took a position in the front office.............
where I 've been in the accounting department....ever since..........
(thats a whole other story)....
the "Kicker".........................
I could run  hundred thousand dollar machining  lathe's............My first day.....front office............I DID NOT HAVE A CLUE ON HOW TO TURN ON A $10.00 ELECTRIC CALCULATOR ON..!!!!

So don't everybody cry at once..........:)))).....my wrist is fine.........now....but what an experience..........
Hey Thanks for the listen............I think the fifth anniversary, deserved a post.........
Gotta get my sympathy from somewhere..........:0

Ouch indeed!

It's a wonder you don't set off the metal detectors in airport security with all that in your wrist!! :)

I suppose every cloud has a silver lining, I bet you couldn't surf aviation websites all day at your milling machine!

Your secret's safe with us!!!LOL!

Dave (doin the "W" thing) from the UK

Haha indeed Dave! I don't think they have milling machines with flat screens and internet connection on the workfloor :P

I've seen the pics before, isn't it weird to know that stuff is in your arm?

By the way, Jan 31 is also the birthday of our Queen hehe :P I don't know how old she became today though :P

Hahahaha, the glory :P

Well if they didn't mention it on the radio this morning I wouldn't have known at all... aye so bad... but we're not like the 'british' where they all know it... I guess (j/k)

Most of the folks here are expecting her to get off the throne and let her son take over... something 'Her Majesty the Queen of England' wouldn't do until her death I guess :P

So much for 'royal family' gossip... blablabla.

Back to the most important subject in history on this day:

Is it titanium or did they cut costs and use plastic on you haha :P

Cool you got to keep the pics though, I've got one of my back being in a little weird shape too!

You have a great day also!
Bas

And thanks for the tulips every year :-)

Now .... getjets ..... You've got more metal in that wing of yours than at least one of the aircraft I've flown on! Talk about going out of your way to get off the floor and into a plush office gig. Nicely done! Happy anniversary!

BUT I DO BELIEVE IN TAKING THE "SCENIC ROUTE"........!!!!

Bas said...

Oops... there I go... haha :)

Julie I just saw how they make titanium for the aviation industry on 'How it's made'...interesting stuff.

Instead of putting 'it' on eBay, let's see how 'YOU' will do on it haha ;) Ooh that remembers me of the banana we put on eBay...and we (class) updated it's 'state' every day xD Right...

Tulips huh? I've never heard of that! (I'll ask some colleagues tomorrow to see if it's really me who is retarded or there's still a glimpse of hope left) The Queen is often referred to as 'Trixie' by the Dutch lol... So our Queen's name inspired a little bit you Giulia?

My history is pretty horrible, years also. And then to think I chose history over physics quite some years ago... Anyways, today at Physics class I wrote down the date in my notepad and I said something about the queens birthday but no one really knew!

It's getting worse and worse with those young fellas these days...

Bas,

You're excused for being a little rusty in History. :) The makeup exam is next week. :)

As for the name Beatrice, I've always loved that name ever since I read Dante's Inferno. He was so in love with Beatrice. Also, I like the way the name sounds in Italian.

We call my daughter, Trixie, sometimes too...

Hey, not sure if you were askin', or having a trivia contest on the "Square the Base" question. I didn't see any others answering (though you always have a ton of comments on your threads, lol!), so here goes (spoiler alert!)…

"Square the Base" means for a pilot, when turning final (i.e. lining up with the runway), to do a 90 degree intercept, rather than the more common angled intercept (typically 30 degrees or so.) This helps keep the separation from the plane ahead when things r bogging down!
